Second Place
@ 2008-05-27 – 08:48:21
Apparently Jorge Cham (he of PhD Comics fame) thinks our comic is nearly very good :S
We entered RoboGeek into a Robot Comics contest organized by the Robotics and Automation Society at the IEEE ICRA-08 conference last week. There were 13 entries and ours came 2nd. The winner was a nice joke, but very much oriented to the Human-Robot Interaction community.
I don't like to be a sore looser, so I won't shout FIX! But, gosh we could have done with the $500. And ours was better anyway

You can see the entries here (Follow the link on that page). The winner was the 1st comic, top left.

In robotics, NOTHING is simple ...

... apart from the researchers. (Sorry - bad joke). But, it is true - you've designed an all powerful robot, with amazingly strong motors, huge AI and "LASER" beam ballistics that can take out a comms satellite while playing chess with Kasparov? Yeah, but howz you gonna power the thing dude?
RG's answer is AA batteries - I think he should have gone for a few hundred PP3's instead - they stack better

The evil genius meets his match

A more cunning plan was never before devised.
But, is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning? No. Not even close. It is more Bash Street Kids than Sherlock Holmes. But ... it might just work ...

I've got hugs for you if you were made in the 80's

80's prediction: One day you will have a computer that will be able to understand what you say, be able to hold an intelligent conversation with you, be able to beat the world chess champion and have an incredible 1 mega-byte of on-board memory.
00's reality: Keyboards, windows vista and multiple terrabytes of storage for all the porn you ever wanted.

In the depths of the earth ...
@ 2008-04-02 – 19:20:10
As we embark upon another mysterious feature-ette, we find our party descending into the very bowels of the earth to find themselves in .... a living room?
Could these be some kind of stairs that plunge not through space, but through time?
Maybe there is a young scientist sitting in his armchair, dreaming that one day he will invent the ultimate machine to take over the WORLD!
Or not.Only in the mind of the Talented-One might we be able to mine for ideas, but I have been warned off putting a pick-axe through his head after the last time. So, dear readers, you, and I, will just have to wait till we manage to tape a pen to his hands and persuade him that he should draw next week's strip. A pick-axe ought to do it.
